About me

I'm Jan Barborik, MBA — your lighthouse for online business in Czechia. I've been doing online marketing for two decades, first inside a media company, then on my own since 2014.

What sets me apart from agency-only marketers: I also run my own business. With my wife we have a family sportswear company — we design it, manufacture it, market it and sell it ourselves. So the things I advise clients on are tested in my own daily operations, not just in textbook scenarios.

I build websites on WordPress and e-shops on Shoptet (the Czech-market equivalent of Shopify). I've also done a couple of Shopify builds, and I'm happy to advise which platform fits your project — sometimes the honest answer is "not the one you came in with".

I work comfortably in English and Italian on top of Czech — enough to run projects, calls and contracts in any of the three.

What I bring to foreign founders is a working knowledge of the Czech market: dominant search engines (Seznam still matters here), local price comparison platforms (Heuréka, Zboží.cz), payment and shipping ecosystems, GDPR specifics, customer expectations and tone. That's the layer you don't get from a generic agency.

Beyond build-and-launch, I do website / e-shop reviews, marketing supervision for in-house teams, mentoring for founders who want to learn it themselves, and training on WordPress and Shoptet.

I'm also the author of the Czech book Staň se i ty Sám sobě marketérem ("Become Your Own Marketer") — a hands-on guide that helps people get started with online marketing on their own. In Czech I also run workshops, webinars and one-on-one training (mostly around WordPress and Shoptet). Outside of client work I write the Marketing on My Own newsletter — a fortnightly take on what's actually worth doing in online marketing.
